Shailen Meets Michael Jordan

wish child Shailen with Michael Jordan

“ I felt really excited because I was able to meet my inspiration. ”

- Shailen

Shailen is a friendly and outgoing nine year old boy from Bartlett. Diagnosed in 2008 with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia (ALL) Shailen was being treated at Cadence Health Hosptial when he was referred to Make-A-Wish.

Shailen Meets Michael JordanShailen’s passion for basketball is his biggest love of all. Whether it’s watching the Chicago Bulls on television or shooting hoops himself, Shailen wished to meet his idol and six time championship winner, Michael Jordan.

Shailen’s wish came true as he landed in Charlotte, where Make-A-Wish arranged for him and his family to enjoy the excitement of a Charlotte Hornets game. The next day, Shailen came face-to-face with the hall of famer at a special meet and greet session. The two share a competitive personality, and that day, Shailen was in disbelief that he was right next to his favorite legendary athlete.

“I was so excited that I was able to meet my inspiration,” Shailen said.

Shailen was able to ask questions of the world-famous athlete, who joked with him and his family and signed autographs. After taking loads of pictures, the smile on Shailen’s face was so bright with excitement and the day was imprinted on his heart.

Several months later, Shailen still beams when he talks about his wish and the day he met the greatest basketball player in the world.
