Lauren is a 17- year-old senior at Bement High School and is in the process of filling out college applications so that she can pursue her interest in communications. She is a strong, independent and caring teenager who loves hockey and all things Blackhawks.
In 2015, Lauren was diagnosed with a brain tumor which shook her confidence just when she was looking ahead to her future. She found hope and optimism when her brother Conor inquired about a wish on her behalf. It was a wonderful surprise that began her Make-A-Wish journey and built her confidence to conquer whatever challenges were ahead.
Lauren had been following the Chicago Blackhawks since she was a little girl and made a point of learning about each one of them. There was no question that meeting the six-time Stanley Cup champions team would be her wish. She never imagined that she would watch a practice, meet the coaches, players, see the Stanley Cup up close and have lunch with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Lauren and her family could barely hold back the emotions as the surreal day unfolded.
Lauren’s mom noted, “It was a really challenging year and to experience Lauren’s wish on the anniversary of her diagnosis gave us optimism on this date instead of despair. It changed Lauren’s outlook on life and improved her self-esteem. It also motivated her to become an advocate for others in her position.”
