Alondra, 10, loves to be creative and spends time building LEGOs, painting and drawing. Diagnosed at birth with a life-threatening congenital cardiac condition, her life often revolves around her medical care. In addition to her heart issues, Alondra also has seizures.
Through her medical team, this south suburban girl was introduced to Make-A-Wish. She told her Make-A-Wish volunteers that she’d like to have a bedroom makeover to something more grownup. They have been having a great time talking about the possibilities and looking at examples of pretty new things to create just the right look and feel.
With help from the team at Macy’s, Alondra made her final choices and designed the bedroom of her dreams. She spent time with their designers and a personal shopper to create the room of her dreams and soon Make-A-Wish and Macy’s were hard at work pulling it all together.
Alondra’s wish came true in a grand way as she was welcomed to Macy’s on State Street by a cheering crowd of supporters. Spectators were excited to be part of her special day and Alondra absorbed their enthusiasm and warmth as her completed room was revealed in an in-store display.
With her family surrounding her, Alondra took in all the details of her purple palace, exploring all of the special touches including plush bedding, a writing desk and cool accents. Thanks to dedicated Make-A-Wish volunteers, the room is now set up in her home and she can enjoy her beautiful surroundings every day, making it a great place to welcome her friends and a peaceful refuge on the days that she is not feeling well.
