Dillon's Mediterranean Cruise

Wish Child Dillon

“ The wish uplifted him and gave him something to look forward to during hard times. ”

- Dillon's Mom

Dillon is a 17-year-old from Galesburg who loves laughing and dreams of traveling. Diagnosed with lymphoma in 2014, Dillon still enjoys playing basketball, mowing for his mother, and imaging new places that he could travel to one day.

Dillon’s condition qualified him for Make-A-Wish, and his wish was a wonderful opportunity to indulge in his wanderlust. Dillon chose a Mediterranean cruise for his wish, making stops in several ports and offering him the opportunity to explore to his heart’s content.

Wish Child DillonDuring the wish planning, while Dillon was still in treatment, the wish had a surprising impact.

“The wish uplifted him and gave him something to look forward to during hard times,” she said.

The cruise took him to many gorgeous cities in Italy, Spain, and France such as Florence, Italy and Barcelona, Spain.

“Our room was a balcony room that we could overlook the sea as we sailed, the views were amazing,” Dillon said.

While on his trip, Dillon was able to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and even walk through the historical landmark. Dillon’s mom said that Dillon was so excited to see so many beautiful cities, experience the different cultures, and try different foods.

“My favorite places were the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Pompeii in Italy, and Les Baux de Provence in France,” Dillon shared.

  • A special Make-A-Wish supporter recently stopped by our office to show her support by donating $50 for children with critical illnesses! After seeing a sign at a Hamra Enterprises Panera Bread, she knew she had to help. "I dropped in a quarter [that day] because I wanted to make a kid's day." At her birthday party, she and forty of her friends also helped to write cards for children about to go on their wishes. "These kids have it really hard, and they should be treated well and respected." She, in the past, has also donated to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and Moriah Congregation. Thank you so much for making wishes come true!
