Zayvian is a playful and fun-loving 3-year-old who is fascinated with LEGOs. As one of the most-friendly kids you’ll meet, his mother Ashley shares he likes to say hello to anyone he sees.
His second year of life looked pretty different than most toddlers. Zayvian was diagnosed with brain tumors and had many surgeries and hospital stays. He was referred to Make-A-Wish by a social worker and since Zayvian is a lover of playing, swimming and dancing, he chose to go where he could do it all: LEGOLAND California.
Throughout his time at the hospital, he was very brave and even rang the victory bell as he finished treatments this summer. Make-A-Wish worked with the family to schedule his wish at the end of his treatment. Soon, the family departed from their Champaign home and headed off on their adventure to the West coast to celebrate Zayvian and catch a breath after the whirlwind of diagnosis and treatment.
“This experience gave us the worry-free break we needed so that we could focus on being together as a family,” Zayvian's mom Ashley said.
The family enjoyed exploring LEGOLAND and making memories together. “We didn’t have to worry about anything because Make-A-Wish had already taken care of it all - from hotels to transportation to activities to food,” Ashley mentions.
Zayvian’s eyes lit up as he saw all kinds of LEGO creations. They also took a day to spend at the beach where he could swim and play in the sand. Ashley loved to see him simply just be a kid and wear himself out from playing so hard.
“I got to see Zayvian the way he should have been his whole life,” she shares.
Leading up to the trip, the wish granters and volunteers made him feel extra special by leaving surprise gift packages with Zayvian’s name on each one. The family shared just how much of a blessing the wish journey was to help with the stress and worry that comes with having a child with a serious illness.
"It gave Zayvian his strength and his life back; and we are so thankful for that."
