Zoraida Sambolin, NBC 5 Chicago anchor and WIsh Ball 2019 emcee, kicked off the celebration during the VIP reception. Make-A-Wish Illinois Board Chair Brian Paul spoke of his involvement with Make-A-Wish and how his son, after his recent Leukemia diagnosis, found the power of hope in his wish journey.
Zoraida then returned to host the main program of the night with wish alum Ariella. Ari was busy hosting a segment on the set of Weekend Update from Saturday Night Live, but she made it just in time for such an important night for wish kids.
After thanking all of our incredible sponsors for their support, Dr. Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago blew us all away with the song "Shout!" Everyone was on their feet!

Wish mom Liz came onstage to share her late son Ian's story: Ian was known for being fearless as he loved to mountain bike, rock climb, and para-glide. After suffering from an aggressive bone cancer, everyone's lives changed. "Ian was fearless before cancer, but cancer taught him fear."
After learning an was referred for a wish, a spark in Ian was ignited. It was hope. "Dreaming about this trip and planning activities got Ian through his treatment. The wish kept him going... The true hope was to find himself again after cancer." Ian wished to explore the mountainsides of France.
Celebrity entertainment Seth Meyers from Late Night with Seth Meyers then told jokes and stories, making the whole crowd laugh after a great night!
The excitement and generosity in the room was absolutely incredible, making this year a huge success. The funds raised are vital to ensure children with critical illnesses are given life-changing wishes.
