Arlene, 4, of Chicago was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She loves girly things and Disney movies, so her wish was to be a princess. Over two days, her wish was granted in grand style.
A limousine escorted by the Chicago Fire Department delivered Princess Arlene to Macy's on State Street, where she was given a red carpet greeting fit for any royalty. Met by a dashing prince, Arlene greeted her subjects and began a day of majestic surprises. She received some extra sparkle in the make up department before heading off with a personal shopper to add to her royal wardrobe. Because it was just before Christmas, she also enjoyed a private audience with the big guy himself, Santa Claus.
A break under the Christmas Tree for lunch in the historic Walnut Room was followed by a carriage ride to her royal suite at The Peninsula Hotel. She beamed a fantastic smile as she was greeted by their attentive staff, which only got bigger when the hotel mascot personally delivered tea to her rooms.
After a night spent relaxing with her family, Princess Arlene was off to the ballet to see The Nutcracker. All in all, a fun-filled, sparkly experience for this little princess who smiled and blew kisses as she rode away.
