Michael is a smart, mature, natural born leader who loves sports and counts the Chicago Bulls as his all time favorite sports team. And as a self-proclaimed “sneaker-head”, Michael knows everything about the latest Jordan shoes and the history of each classic Jordan release. So when Michael was diagnosed with Osterosarcoma, his wish was to meet the team behind the shoes.
Thanks to Make-A-Wish, Michael and his family did just that. At the Nike headquarters in Portland, Oregon, Michael got to meet with the Jordan Brand team and speak one-on-one with Vice President Howard White. White is a legend in the field and worked with Michael Jordan to revolutionize the shoe industry. During the Nike tour, Michael even met with a shoe designer, a marketing manager, a developer, and apparel staffer. In the end, Michael left with a greater understanding of what it takes to create an iconic brand as well as two personalized pairs of Nikes.
Now, as Michael recovers from chemotherapy treatments, he can rebound just like the pros recover from injury; in stylish, signature kicks. And who knows, maybe we will even see Michael’s own Nike design coming out of Portland one day.
