Like most 16 year old girls, Tyisha, of Chicago loves music, dancing, and hanging with her friends. But her favorite activity by far, is shopping.
While being treated at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
for cancer, Tyisha was referred to Make-A-Wish Illinois by a social worker. Her wish to have a shopping spree perfectly incorporated all of her favorite activities where she was able to ride around down town Chicago in her very own limousine, blasting music with her friends and shopping at all her favorite stores.
The wish started off with some delicious McDonald’s breakfast, one of Tyisha’s favorites. Lauren, one of Tyisha's wish granters said that the McDonald's staff was so excited to host her and tried to make her stop there very special.
"I think for them it gave them joy to be a part of something bigger than their every day," Lauren said. "They were so thrilled to see the smile on Tyisha’s face."
After breakfast, it was off to the store Tyisha was most excited about – Michael Kors. After carefully selecting some great items there, the group headed to American Mattress for her dream bed. The day continued with a variety of other stores such as Forever 21, Victoria’s Secret, and Bath and Body Works.
Tyisha was excited to share the day with her cousins, Destiny and D’Angelo and her best friend Vanita. They were all so excited for her wish and were an important part of her support network during her illness. Tyisha made sure they shared the fun by purchasing special items for each of them during the day.
At Dylan’s Candy Bar on Michigan Avenue the staff presented her with a huge gift basket filled with all of her favorite candy along with some other Dylan’s Bar Candy apparel and a sweet candy patterned robe.
Tyisha was extremely grateful to have her wish granted, at one point during the day she exclaimed, “You guys really are making my wish come true!”
