Quirky, creative, and mellow Xavier, 7, lives in Harvard with his parents and two brothers. He loves Minecraft and Mickey Mouse, but he doesn’t love the constant monitoring and worrying that comes with his life-threatening kidney condition. Having frequent hospital visits and having to stop what he’s doing to constantly drink water and check how he’s feeling is frustrating for a young kid just trying to enjoy being a child.
Though he Xavier was originally referred to Make-A-Wish in 2012, Xavier’s parents decided to wait until he was older and more stable to enjoy the experience. His condition was not cured when he received his kidney transplant, and his mother said that they knew it would be a long battle for him and that he would still need a break further down the road. Late last year, Xavier was strong enough and better able to manage his condition, and the time came to make his wish come true.
This little guy loves the Minion characters from Despicable Me, and that coupled with his love of Mickey Mouse sealed his wish to go to Florida and visit the Walt Disney World® Resort and Universal Studios. Xavier and his family stayed in the Give Kids the World Village, a specially designed retreat for children with life-threatening conditions and their families. The unlimited ice cream there was maybe Xavier and his brothers’ favorite part of the whole trip! Relaxing at the resort and going on rides like Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios gave his Xavier a break from doctor’s visits.
“It was a week of carefree happiness,” Xavier’s mother said. “He could just enjoy himself and not worry about his health issues.”
