Elizabeth is a creative and adventurous teen from Hoffman Estates who has lived with a life-threatening blood disorder her whole life. A condition that affects her red blood cell count, she required routine regular transfusions to keep her healthy.
A few years ago, an experimental treatment became available to her. This treatment promised a very good outcome, but required some extensive preparation, including a course of chemotherapy. It was during this time that Elizabeth was introduced to Make-A-Wish.
Thinking about her choice of wishes, she knew she would want to pack the experience full of adventure and ultimately chose to visit Australia. The beautiful landscape provided the perfect backdrop to her carefree exploration of the land Down Under. She enjoyed snorkeling, sightseeing and meeting kangaroos among many other activities. She also enjoyed sharing the entire experience with her family.
“The wish was a celebration point,” Elizabeth told WGN News. “It felt like an accomplishment to get through the treatment. I could see that I was doing so much better on my wish.”
Now a college student, Elizabeth continues to pursue her creative passions while pursuing a career in health care. Most of all, she enjoys living life to its fullest.
