Jessica's Safari Adventure

Jessica's Safari

“ I have never been so happy and could not have asked for anything better. ”

Fighting Leukemia has not stopped 17-year-old Jessica from seeking adventure and following her passions. Despite the hard times and hospital visits, Jessica continues to be a bright, passionate and creative young woman who enjoys photography and heavy metal music.

At first, Jessica, from Lake Villa, was unsure of what she wanted. Then she saw family friend’s photos from a recent safari trip and thought that would be the perfect adventure for her. Jessica was positive that she wanted to embark on her own African safari adventure.

In preparation for the big trip, Jessica and her family began doing research on sites they were eager to see, got their necessary shots and went shopping for the appropriate attire. Little did she know that while she was preparing to go on the trip, her friends, family and classmates were planning their own surprise.

Around 50 of Jessica’s loved ones organized a flash mob. They all showed up on the day of her departure, singing and dancing in the street and on her lawn to blasting music from speakers in a pick-up truck. It was the perfect way to send her off for her amazing and exciting wish trip.

Once in Africa, she began her safari adventure by staying at Kapama Buffalo Camp where she was able to experience the incredible wildlife first hand and capture once-in–a-lifetime photos.

“Being able to celebrate my one year cancer free in Africa on my Make-A-Wish trip at the Buffalo Camp in Kapama was wild. I have never been so happy and could not have asked for anything better,” said Jessica.

“This was an experience of a lifetime…just unbelievable” Jessica’s mother, Terry shared.
“What everyone at Make-A-Wish is doing is absolutely amazing and I cannot thank you enough for helping make my wish come true!” said Jessica.

  • “The biggest misconception with Make-A-Wish is that they’re just for terminally ill kids, and they’re not… I don’t know if I would still be fighting the good fight as strong as I am without Make-A-Wish.” We are grateful for people like Carlos, who 10 years after his wish, continues to feel its positive impact on his life, and advocates the need for Make-A-Wish to help change the lives of others.
