Ethan Gets his Dream Room

Ethan after lunch at Topper's Pizza

“ He had a smile on his face the whole day. ”

- Heidi, wish granting volunteer

Sixteen-year-old Ethan from Chicago is a quiet, reserved teenager with a great sense of humor. Like many other teens his age, Ethan loves video games and spending time on the computer. When Ethan went out for pizza and shopping with his mom, little did he know that when he would return home he would discover his bedroom had been revamped into a gamer’s paradise.

wish child Ethan's gamer deskEthan was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2007. Through Make-A-Wish, Ethan wished for his bedroom to be transformed into a gamer’s dream room. Wish granting volunteers set to work creating the space with a new computer and furniture. While they were busy redecorating they arranged for a fun outing for Ethan including a special lunch at Topper's Pizza and a visit to GameStop, where Ethan happily spent time picking out some items he wanted including a Deadpool figurine.

“He was really happy,” wish granter volunteer Heidi said. “He had a smile on his face the whole day.”

Ethan was thrilled with the new game room his wish granter volunteers set up, complete with a new gaming chair, Xbox and computer. Though he tends to get distracted and caught up playing on his new computer, his mom is so grateful for the joy it brings him.

“You didn’t get to hear him laugh a lot before,” Ethan’s mom Esther said, “but now he’s laughing all the time.”
