Alexander visits Ireland

wish child Alexander

“ The trip provided memories that we will carry with us all our lives. ”

- Andrea, Alexander's mother

Alexander is a positive, up-beat 13-year-old from Gibson City who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was four years old. The past year has been a challenge for Alexander with frequent medical treatments and a hospital stay.

Referred to Make-A-Wish through a social worker at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. As he thought about his wish, he decided on a trip to across the pond to Ireland. He was excited to have his whole family join him and learn about their Irish heritage. Alex’s favorite part of the trip was visiting the majestic Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. There the family was able to explore the amazing rock formations along the beautiful Irish coast.

Alexander’s mother, Andrea, shared, “We experienced our day to day life in a new and beautiful place, met wonderful people who enriched our experiences, and made memories by simply having fun together.” Alexander and his family fulfilled their desire to learn about their Irish heritage, “We are more culturally aware and have a greater understanding of Irish history and culture.”

"The trip provided memories that we will carry with us all our lives."
