We are proud to congratulate Sue Messerli as our March Volunteer of the Month! Sue has devoted much of her time and passion to advancing the Make-A-Wish mission since becoming a volunteer in 2013. In only 4 years she has already taken on multiple volunteer roles, helps with the annual Ride for Wishes event, and has been instrumental in organizing one of the many upcoming World Wish Day celebrations!
Sue was born and raised in Maine but she moved to Highland with her husband, an Illinois native. Two years after retiring from her 35 year long career with Eaton B-Line, Sue attended a Make-A-Wish Regional Council meeting and was “hooked”. Immediately afterwards, she joined the Southern Illinois Regional Council and now serves as the Council Chair. Community Relations Manager Laura Cannavo Huerta shares that in this role Sue “demonstrates leadership and commitment while engaging volunteers and keeping everyone connected.” Sue also serves as one of our Social Media Ambassadors and she makes the time to continuously develop special Make-A-Wish events.
Sue has assisted in organizing many events for Make-A-Wish and she has gone above and beyond in planning special activities for the day and spreading the word. When asked what keeps her so motivated in supporting Make-A-Wish, Sue says “It is the most enriching thing I’ve ever been involved with in my entire life.” She goes on to say, “If the least I can do for wish children is put a smile on their face, I’ll go the extra mile to do it.”
Sue is currently helping to organize the World Wish Day Celebration in Edwardsville on April 29th one of the many World Wish Day Celebrations
happening throughout Illinois between April 23rd
and May 6th
Sue, you bring smiles and joy to the entire Make-A-Wish community. Thank you for your continuous dedication to Make-A-Wish and congratulations on being our Volunteer of the Month.
