In celebration of her 4 years of exceptional work as a Make-A-Wish volunteer, we are thrilled to name Gina Marsh as September’s Volunteer of The Month. Gina’s longstanding relationship with our organization began in 2005 when she volunteered as a summer intern at the Peoria office. It was there that she first collaborated with Community Relations Manager Janet Glavin, whom she still works with today. “I knew Gina was going to be a success wherever she went,” Janet shared.
Gina was raised on a farm in Sadorus, Illinois and after earning a degree in Communications in Kirksville, Missouri, she returned to Illinois to work with non-profits like Habitat for Humanity and the Muscular Distrophy Association. She now works in Marketing and PR at the University of Illinois Tax School in addition to her service on the Regional Council with Make-A-Wish since 2013.
As Chairperson of Champaign’s Walk for Wishes this year, Gina has found innovative ways to reach her community; including partnering with area business owners and encouraging engagement among volunteers at the recent Labor Day Parade and other community events. Walk Manager Lauren Jernigan said Gina is a pleasure to work with and added that “Gina’s willingness to explore new connections, ideas, and opportunities to highlight the work of Make-A-Wish brings a genuine warmth and passion that leads the committee in new directions.”
In the future, Gina hopes to become a Wish Granter to continue the mission that she fell in love with more than a decade ago. Her favorite memories from volunteering are meeting wish families and getting to know their stories because according to Gina, “What sets Make-A-Wish apart is that it’s such a joyful outlet. Knowing who we’re doing this for and how it makes a difference brings such a positive impact.”
We are delighted to congratulate Gina as our Volunteer of the Month. Thanks for everything you do!
