We are thrilled to announce that our July Volunteer of the Month is Kevin Warfel! Kevin had his own wish granted to go on a Disney Cruise in 2000 and has been a dedicated advocate for Make-A-Wish ever since.
Kevin was born and raised in Geneva, Illinois where he currently lives and works with the Geneva Emergency Management Agency. Kevin assists local police and fire departments in spotting inclement weather. In addition to working with the EMA and volunteering for Make-A-Wish, Kevin stays busy playing softball, welcoming U.S. troops home at the airport, and bowling!
Kevin’s volunteer career with Make-A-Wish launched after he served as a wish ambassador at Wish Ball 2016. Kevin had always wanted to give back to Make-A-Wish and following his Wish Ball experience, he began volunteering for anything he could! In just one year he has volunteered for a wide range of events including Wishes Uncorked, I Wish to Party and Walk for Wishes. Kevin also returned to Wish Ball as a volunteer this past May and he has helped with office projects - the latest being hanging photos of wish children in our conference room! Volunteer coordinator Emily Walters says, “Kevin is truly willing to do anything to help us out as he has a very strong connection towards Make-A-Wish and staying involved as a wish alum!”
Throughout his time volunteering, Kevin has thoroughly enjoyed meeting different people who share the same passion for Make-A-Wish. He shared that his favorite part of volunteering for Make-A-Wish is “getting to meet different volunteers… Some are people out of the blue who want to serve a great cause and some are people like me who have also had a personal, first-hand experience with a wish.” Kevin goes on to say that he looks forward to when “Make-A-Wish is granting every single eligible child’s wish.”
It is apparent that Kevin goes above and beyond in supporting the Make-A-Wish mission and we will always be grateful for his dedication! Thanks Kevin and congratulations!
