Make-A-Wish® Illinois has learned of some suspicious activity in retail locations in Chicago and the suburbs in which a team of two men are soliciting cash donations for Make-A-Wish. In various reports, the men have shown pictures of a supposed wish child or offered low value gift cards in exchange for donations. Occurrences have been reported in Chicago, Hickory Hills, Buffalo Grove, Addison, Darien and other west and northwest suburbs outside of a variety of retailers including Walgreens, Dominick’s, Jewel-Osco and Treasure Island.
These donation requests are not authorized by Make-A-Wish Illinois and the Make-A-Wish does not receive any of the funds contributed through these solicitations.
“The best way to be sure that your contribution will help grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions in Illinois is to contact us directly by phone, mail or online at illinois.wish.org,” said Make-A-Wish Illinois Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Springs.
